Vaping etiquette guide: what you need to know

Whether you’re new to vaping or you’ve been a fan from the start, it’s a good idea to know the general rules of etiquette when it comes to vaping. After all, even if it isn’t harmful to those around you like tobacco smoke, you may have noticed signs springing up in public places requesting you not to use e-cigarettes. Here are some tips to observe…

1. Knowing where you can vape

Vaping isn’t covered by the smoking ban, but that doesn’t mean you should start vaping wherever you like. Many businesses have restrictions on vaping in their property, including pubs, restaurants, cafes, theatres, cinemas, trains and buses. If you’re not sure whether it’s OK to vape, always ask a member of staff. If you’re not allowed to vape in the building see if they can direct you to somewhere you can enjoy a little vape escape. Whatever you do, don’t try to secretly vape when you’ve been asked not to.

2. Avoid vaping in congested areas

If you used to smoke cigarettes, then you might have felt awkward about smoking in compact or congested spaces such as queues or at outdoor events with a lot of people in attendance. It’s a good idea to observe the same etiquette when it comes to vaping, ensuring those around you aren’t put off by the scent or the smoke.

3. Be considerate of friends, partners and family

To keep the peace amongst loved ones, it’s a good idea to check with them before you start vaping in their company, particularly if you’ve been invited to their home. While e-cigarettes come in lots of delicious flavours, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and if someone is trying to get over their own smoking habits, it could well act as a trigger. Not to mention, you should avoid vaping around children as they may well become curious to try it for themselves. What’s more, many choose to avoid vaping on the sofa or in the bedroom, both for their partner’s sake, but also for the fact that leaks can happen, and if a battery were to malfunction while you were dozing off, it could even be dangerous.

4. Answer questions politely

Despite its growing popularity, some people are still curious about vaping and might have lots of questions. Answer them as politely as possible, and if someone asks what your current e-liquid of choice is, offer them to try it – but always ensure you switch mouthpieces!
